Footnote: Give both authors’ full names in the order in which they appear. Use “and” to join them.

Bibliography: Give both authors’ full names in the order in which they appear, but invert only the name of the first author. Use a comma and the word “and” to join them.

Bibliography format:

First Author Last Name, First Name, and Second Author First Name Last Name. Format the rest of the reference according to the specific document type.

Bibliography example:

Gardiner, Christopher, and Elizabeth Sharp.

Three to six authors

Footnote: Give the name of the first author only, followed by “et al.” (“and the others”) with no comma.

Footnote format:

¹ First Author Full Name et al. Format the rest of the reference according to the specific document type.

Footnote example :

¹Max Heller et al.

Bibliography : Give the names of all authors in the order in which they appear. Invert only the name of the first author. Use a comma and the word “and” before the last author.

Bibliography format:

Last Name of First Author, First Name, Full Name of Second Author, Full Name of Third Author. Format the rest of the reference according to the specific document type.

Bibliography example:

Heller, Max, Janice Fritz, and Marjorie Jenkins.

More than six authors

Footnote : Same as for three to six authors (see above). Give the name of the first author only, followed by “et al.”

Bibliography : List the first three authors in the bibliography, followed by “et al.”

Bibliography format:

Last Name of First Author, First Name, Full Name of Second Author, Full Name of Third Author et al. Format the rest of the reference according to the specific document type.

Bibliography example:

Johnson, Emily, Andrew Miller, Jessica Stuart et al.
